I am interested in becoming a virtual assistant. Do you think it will help to start my on website like a resume website advertising my services. Or just apply for Virtual assistant jobs?

I would do both. Applying for a Virtual Assistant job might lead someone to your website and if that is not there, they might wonder why it is not.. And having it on your website, it can never hurt

How does Virtual Assisting work? Are you actually an assistant to someone, or is it like a typing pool, where you are assigned specific work to complete? I have heard of this before, but I am not really sure what it actually is. It sounds interesting.

I have never worked as a Virtual Assistant but I became interested from some information that was passed to me by a friend. I assume that you would be doing everything that a regular office assistant does except you doing it from home.

I was totally unaware to the market requirements of virtual assistant until recently when I found that there are many requirements of virtual assistants in the market. In fact many companies are looking for virtual assistant especially there are Executive Directors who are always on the move and only connected via phone/Net. They are looking for these assistants who work for home and still work as their assistant.

There is a huge market for virtual assistants right now, be sure to do some research before you decide to open your own site, what are the other sites quoting, what do the other sites offer; things of that nature. If you can supply a median based on your experience you should be ok. You definately also want to apply to a few VA companies to get some experience actually doing the job one line, this can often tell you if you are suited to starting your own VA website... There is a wonderful book out there, I have it, called "How to Start Your Own Secretarial services Business" that I would urge you to have a look it as well

If you do a search for "Virtual Assistants" you will find a lot of information as well as a number of forums like this were the Virtual Assistants discuss how they started and give tips for marketing and finding clients. Some do secretarial or bookkeeping work, others do things like virtual call center/phone answering, medical transcription or even website maintentance and design.
