Has anyone got a success story with a networking site. I don't mean myspace - more LinkedIN style ones where you can get introduced to people through friends in your network, and search for people who work in the industries you need contcts from.

I have a LinkedIN profile, and its interesting to note who is within only a couple of degrees separation from me. Its just for a laugh at the moment, but I'm thinking of buying an introdction.

If you were a successful business person and someone running a startup got introduced to you as seeking advice from a 'friend of a friend' would you respond positively?

i know of ryze.com and gobignetwork.com... not sure of any other though.

Have you used either of those to good effect?

As I said, I'm a member of some, but they seem mmore for fun than a serious business tool at the moment.

ryze.com is more of a joke and i wouldn't recommend it if you are serious about networking. I dont use gobignetwork.com, but i took a quick look at their gruops section of their site and it looks pretty solid.
