Default Saturation

I was thinking about how saturated a lot of the Internet business areas are. As soon as a new idea comes out, there are hundreds of people trying to copy the idea and soon enough there are one hundred websites out there doing the same thing. It's so hard to come up with a unique idea nowadays, and when you do come up with one someone duplicates it almost immediately. Do you think that saturation is a serious problem? And do you think there's anything you can do to prevent yourself from being copied?

Yes its a big problem.
I consider it more to be competition rather than saturation

What can we do though?
We can not stop people coming out with the same ideas.

I find that it makes you push harder to be better than them at what it is you are doing.

The problem is, it has become so cheap and easy to take an idea and copy it. On the other hand, it keeps innovators on their feet!

Competition is great for a consumer, but not so great for the inventor.

Well if you have a great idea, which you think somebody can easily copy, best is to get the best site design, best domain that fits the idea, and put ALOT of money into advertising in the first week or day.

This way, you're already on top before they start copying.

What if they have more money than you?

You might have the best idea in the world but very little money to put into it, then someone with a big budget comes along and kills it.

If it is a totally new idea word of mouth is thye best advertising tool on the net, if you get people talking about your and adding links to their sites and blogs you will be a success no matter how much your competitors have.

Just look at the milliordollorhomepage, it spread virally so much that within a week every webmaster new about it.

I think it's becoming a problem yes. In the circles I run in, mostly internet forums and such there's a huge thing with making money on the internet and "entrepreneur's", with these sort of sites popping up all the time.

I agree its a massive problem, and I'm not sure how to combat it. Its easy to be better the second time around (i.e. as the person copying an idea).

Still, it works both ways - its cheap and easy to get online, so it means anyone (and that means us too) can do it.

Yes, this can be a problem. You see too many people trying to do the same thing. IT can tend to be good for consumers from the standpoint of competition providing them with the opportunity for better services and products. ON the other hand, if there are two many people in a certain Internet business who are not running their business well, it can make the market as a whole look bad sometimes.
