Default Taking time off

Do you ever feel burnt out and feel you need a break?

What do you do when this happens, take a break or keep going?

Almost every single day, but I try and fight through it.

Last year I burnt out. I had been doing freelance client work for almost three years, pretty much repetitive work also. In the end it became extremely monotonous and I found it hard to keep the same motivation going despite what money it was bringing in.

As a result of this, I ended up taking a year off from doing any client work and pretty much any web related work, including any projects I had myself.

I'm now back to doing client work, and I'm happy to be doing it again. a) for the money b) for the recognition, respect and personal achievement.

One of the joys of being "self-employed" if you like. Its kinda hard to give yourself time off, especially if you are obsessed with a project ect..

At the end of the day you work for yourself so taking time off is something you need to work out "with yourself and your business..".

I think breaks are very important to keep focused, even a weekend for me away from things does wonders..

When I feel burnt out I typically try to just work through it if at all possible. Sometimes though it really is necessary to just take a break even if a brief one or if you give yourself a day off. Otherwise if you get too frustrated your work can suffer.

I'm feeling a little burnt out right now, and I haven't even started full time :/

I'm fortunate in that my husband is in the business with me, and we can share the load.

I learned the hard way that when you are burnt out, you have to eventually take some time off. You can work through a burn out no problem, but if you do it too often, it will eventually take its toll on you. Much better to take some time off as soon as you can possibly manage it, even if it's just a day without turning the computer on or even half a day.

That said, I still work when I'm burned out if a deadline is looming, but I'm not as fanatical about it. Sometimes you just have to take a break or the quality of your work is going to suffer and that will only bring about negative outcomes for you. Much better to work a little rest and relaxation in ... you don't always come back totally refreshed. Sometimes, it's like arrrghhhh, this piece of crap work again???? But at least you're more mentally prepared to gut it out after some time off.

For example, I used to work through the wee hours of the morning a lot. However, at that time I also had a day job, so working until 3 a.m. was not something that was good to do too often. I starting losing my concentration at my day job and realized I needed to do something ... so I made the cut and now you'll rarely find me online or at the computer after 9 pm. I'm much happier/rested and I think my work is better because of it.

When you feel burnt out you should always take a break, if you are working on the edge you will not produce your best work and will go alot slower.

Just get away from it for a bit, it works wonders.
