When did you decide to become a business owner?

I was just wondering about how people decided to become a business owner. It's not an easy decision or something that just come to you (or is it?). For me, it was something that I thought long and hard about, because I had to weigh the benefits against the risks of doing business for myself. How did you decide to become a business owner?

Mines came about when I was reading an article on entrepreneurship and saw that in the urban apparel online industry, a lot of the sites weren't reliable. Plus me and my friend were talking about selling urban apparel out the back of his 2000 Lincoln LS at the mall or whatever, but being that being my own boss and having online knowledge and being a young entrepreneur... I thought what better then to start my own business.

I will tell all beginners though, its not as EASY as you may think. I've done 15 (LITERALLY) attempts to start the business and all went back to the drawing board. 2 YEARS later (started in Nov. 2004 for the urban apparel business) --- I am still developing and ACTUALLY making progress.

End results... research and practice before you do try to get into the world of business, its harder then some people may think, any good entrepreneur will tell you that. Best of luck to ya'll.

I decided to do it because my hobby site started taking over my life, and I want to try to turn it into something proffitable.

It was a tough decision, and I do still want to have a part time job as a safety net, so I haven't made the full leap yet, but its something I want to do. Its just scary being dependant entirely on your own skills to keep yourself afloat.

After I had my son I decided that it was time to go ahead and do my own thing. (I had been wanting to for some time, and knew that this would be the time for it.) I didn't want to have to leave the house to make money.
