Default Getting your site listed in directories

Two directories I would give an arm and aleg to get my sites listed in:
ODP - Open Directory Project and the Yahoo directory. And I don't think I'm going to be listed by either.
cause Dmoz is hopelessly backlogged. It takes around 6 months to get a yes or no.

And to get listed in the Yahoo directory, you need to pay cold, hard cash. Which I'm not about to do.

So tell me, what other directories are worth getting listed into?

For topic based sites, you can do a google search for important directories which list sites like yours and apply to get listed. Example: Home business directory

DMOZ.org is one of the hardest directories to get into for free. I have submitted 2 websites before and only 1 made it. I'm pretty sure they are now connected with google though.

How much cash is Yahoo talking? It just might be worth it. Yahoo will get you lots of customers, remember.

I'm going to show my ignorance, but I thought that having quality keyword rich articles on your site was all that you needed to do to drive traffic in that direction.

Having articles dripping with keywords is no good, if no one except you reads your own articles. What you need to do is get as many people as possible to visit your site. How you do that is your problem. Usually, it's a long and hard process. You write articles, you exchange links. Keep doing that for a year. Then the search engines think you're some big shot, so they start sending you traffic. Which helps to let even more people know about your site, so it makes exchanging links a bit easier and things generally improve from there. Hope you understand what I mean, cause sometimes I don't understand all this myself.

Well I have a list - it has about 134 directories. One is formatted in BBCode and the other is HTML.

Hopefully that will help some people.

Wow, Corey - out of 134 a person is bound to find some good stuff! Thanks for that!

Wow, thanks for the list! I've found directories to be helpful for PR, but not so much for traffic, but still, worth a shot.

I would have broken it up into a few different posts - well I tried three and then decided just to attach them. I thought being new, I better not post four or five messages all at once on the same thread
