Submitting to the big three search engines - Google, Yahoo & MSN is unnecessary. They will find you and rather quickly at that once you get a few quality links pointing your way.
Submitting to 3rd tier search engines is a waste of time IMO. You likely will never see any traffic from them, so it is wasted effort.
Remember, if you submit to Google manually, then it will add you but with a PageRank of 0. Why? Because it didn't get to your site from any backlinks, rather it found your site only because you submitted it. Then you'll have to wait for next PR update. If you are found via a backlink, chances are you will land a PR2, PR3, or PR4, just like the guy mentioned.
No problem. Just don't bet on the PR through a backlink. The page that is backlinking you has to have a rather good PR inorder for your site to get PR when indexing for the first time. Google has to also find your site through the link.
When you submit to Google, it doesn't find you through any links, that's why you will always have PR0 until the next PR update.
Do you think you need to do it more than once? I was reading that some people submit their website -- even though they're already listed in a search engine -- once every week. I only do it once and then never bother submitting again. Any thoughts?
Submitting a site that frequently could get your website banned in some search engines, I would submit it only once, and if you can place a link to it on another website that is already indexed then do so and let the search engines find you, of course that would happen only with Google, Yahoo and MSN so you will need to submit to the other 100 SE's that almost no one uses.
Yeah, believe it or not, I put rel=nofollow on the sites that link me, but many have said that Google ignores this. Another alternative for those cheaters is to create a user agent check, and if it is GoogleBot, to leave out the links.
