Default How frequently to submit to search engines?

Do you think you need to do it more than once? I was reading that some people submit their website -- even though they're already listed in a search engine -- once every week. I only do it once and then never bother submitting again. Any thoughts?

I do not submit my sites to search engines at all, even when a totally new site.

Get a few good inbound links and Google will pick you up within a few days to a week.

You're not supposed to submit more than once to any search engine. The search engines can consider it as spam. Once you are listed, there is no point on re-submitting either, because you are already in their index. Your website will remain in the index.

You'll get nailed for spam and you'll have your site blacklisted or sandboxed in many search engines. Some even argue that even doing it once will lower your website ranking on Google and other search engines.

Spencer, I suggest you read alot more on http://www.seochat.com

I don't even bother. If they can't find your site without you submitting it, your ranking is going to be bad anyhow.

I've never bothered to submit any of my sites to search engines, just because on the whole I haven't needed to, my pages get picked up anyway.

You used to have to submit your sites to search engines. Times have changed! Instead of submitting your site, put up a Google Sitemap.

I would always submit a new folder but in the last 3 years I have only added 1 extra folder to our sites.

BTW read goggle own press they say no penalty for submitting and really face it if they did not want you to submit they would not have them.

I don't understand why you all don't submit to search engines. Yes, you can get picked up easily through other means, but submitting to search engines is still a valid means of getting crawled by them. I know Google will crawl your index (and only your index) within an hour or so after submitting.

If you have to submit to the SE's then do it once only per site, not per page. I prefer to let the SE's find me naturally through links posted on the net on crawled pages/forums.

Anybody else have any views on the above..

Completely the opposite from what I have been reading. Most recommend submitting every month or so when developing a new website.
