Default How much traffic

Do you receive a lot of traffic from search engines? I honestly do not. Most of my visitors come from people who visit my site after hearing about me on a forum or by running accross my link and business information somewhere.

I am no expert but it takes a lot of optimization for the engines, and it also takes time. I know google puts you in a "sandbox" for a while saying that new sites don't last. Check with google and you'll see tips to optimizing your site for them

About 60% of my traffic to all my sites comes from various search engines - google, msn, yahoo, etc. And I never really did any SEO other than totally basic stuff.

At my old hosting company, yes. We were in the top five results for 'webmaster hosting' on Google, but it took about a year to get there. When done right, SEO is a great thing. When done wrong, it can actually penalize your site. I don't know if you are aware of either of them, but these two sites may interest you a great deal:

I do not put much if any time into SEO. So far it hasn't seemed to harm my business in any way. I do try to get a few quality links to my website and to make sure I include quality content.

I love the search engines, because there are so many factors that you can take advantage that most webmasters aren't even aware of. Finding keywords from which you can get loads of free SE traffic is easy if you know how to do it correctly. My traffic comes from multiple sources, but SE's are definitely a big provider for me.

All you have to remember is that search engines are looking for what visitors want to see. Don't think of it as search engine optimisation. Think of it as visitor optimisation.

How do visitors find your site? If other sites are linking to you.

What do new visitors want? A site which is informative, interesting and easy to use. Loads fast. Exclusive content.

What do members and regular visitors want? New and fresh content every day, maybe even two or three times a day.

How to do all this? Add interesting and exclusive content everyday. Use a good webhost. Initiate and encourage user participation. Try to get other sites to link to you.

That is a very good way of looking at it. Never thought of it like that.

I completely agree with peeling. I have never ordered a "SEO expert report" or anything like that. I do not "DO" SEO. I just build my sites, and then go out and advertise them - which means getting links. And I still get good traffic from search engines.
