Link Building for SEO

Link building is the key for an effective SEO campaign. This works best for PR and SERP. Always provide useful and relevant content in your websites niche as this will help in quality organic linking - sites will naturally link to your site once they see unique and helpful information in your site. Keep in mind that the more targeted backlinks you build for your site, the more likely it will bring in the right visitors that could make the conversions for better revenue. You do targeted link buidling for fast and long term traffic to your sites.

There are several ways to build links. Here are just some of the following:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

What are your thoughts? What kind of link building method do you use and how effective has it been?

Great advise!

I use the same strategies for link building... the only one I would like to add is:

- Viral Link Building

=> You create for example a nice php script, give it away for free and have a link to your website inside that script that the users are not allowed to remove. They put the script on their host and you'll get a backlink.

Some websites do this with awards... so that people who win the award proudly put their award-logo on their sites with a backlink.

I do agree with what you have said.Moreover Congratulations for your directory attaining the SERP'S .I read your post.But link exchange on a while isn't that simple yet not that tough either.It is very important that you lay more stress on proper link building specially if you are optimizing for Google.To read more about link exchanges click here.

Articles still work brilliantly for backlinks if they are
written well and interesting. They will get you traffic,
backlinks and have the viral element to them too if
they're good enough.

Using your keywords & related keywords in the titles,
the body and in the backlinks themselves is important.

A well keyword-optimised site and consistent keyword-optimised
article campaign can do wonders

I have tried many of these ideas but I have silly questions:
how do you do or start a) Social Bookmarking and b) Link Baits?

Link building has many procedures.You either do directory submissions or forum/article postings to get the link for your signature,you try social book marking or link exchanges.With the last update for PR and backlinks that Google made in February it has made it clear that any link pages containing the term "link" or any alpha numeric characters such as 1.html in their url will not be crawled or cached.So for analysts,web-masters who are looking to have their backlinks increased through reciprocal links better don't upload your page/pages as links.html solely for the reason Google will not crawl it.
Rather a term like resource will be better.

Great share! Directory submission is one of the most basic link building technique. Some say its overrated in terms of SEO benefits. The thing also to consider about directories are the traffic it draws. They may be minimal, but 80% of the time - they are very targeted
