According to this article it doesn't really matter, as meta keywords won't help your ranking. They may still have negative effects if you overdo it and show signs of being a spammer.
Well I beg to differ about meta keywords don't help.
I normally use only one keyword or a max of 5 keywords tightly focused to the theme of the content of the page.
I will agree that it won't help you rank any higher for SEO, but its been my experience and testing over many millions of pages that it helps the search engines decide what you are about.
Just look at your competition and what is being displayed in the SERPs in many cases you will see a relationship between the keywords and text being displayed for the results.
So even thou the meta keywords today is not a big player for rankings it does help the bots to report about what your site is about.
