Default Is PR Really Important?

I was reading somewhere that, PR is really not that important as it is taken by developers. They say, it does matter that how many backlinks you have and it increases the PR. But, for SE ranking PR doesn't matter.

And i think sometimes its true too. I have seen sites come on first page when searching, and they dont have any rank or have like 1 or 2.

what do you think?

PR (pagerank) seems not to influence search engine ranking. It is merely a measuring stick by Google that plays some part in their analysis of your domain.

I have several PR5 sites with hardly any backlinks at all.

I have several high ranking sites with no PR at all.

PR is just one of the factors the Google algorithm takes into account when ranking a page for a keyword. It's more accurate to say that PR is a reflection of the importance of a page. Meaning that say 5 pages link to Page XYZ, the PR's of all the 5 pages are taken into account while helping decide the ranking of Page XYZ.

What does that mean practically speaking? You should try to get incoming links to your site/pages from high PR pages, rather than focus on trying to increase your own PR. Your own PR will go up anyway, if you follow the basics - Add new pages regularly, relevant metatags, don't play tricks, exchange links or link only to sites which are relevant to your topic/pages.

Course, this is not professional advice. Just my personal experience and opinion.

Yes. Google PR is very important. It not only increases your domain value and price when you sell it like ious said, but you will be ranked high in google for specific keywords on your site or whatever your site is about. Like say, you got a webmaster forums and it is PR 6, your site will rank high and before other webmaster forums when searches are related to webmaster forums. Hope you understand.

It can be viewed by both ways. Page ranking is important so that your effort to generate traffic gets success. It is important from business point of view also. But at the same time it is not that important for many site owners.

PR is helpful, but ultimately revenue is what you are looking for. PR, traffic, content, they all paint part of the whole picture of the value of your site.

You use pageranking to boost you revenue. The higher you rank the more traffic you will see
Placement is everything when drawing new streams of traffic.

I think Pagerank is very important factor to boost your reputation and revenue. If you have a high page rank then you can sell text links to others and make good money from link selling.

High pagerank bring buyer to your site fast and also you found good traffic to your site. It also boost your domain rank too.
