Default Are Small Time Directories Worth it?

I read over the FAQ but im not sure if it was mentioned. Are small time directories worth the time of day? I tend to do submissions anyways just in case of that one extra link you know?

I think that some of them help and some of them don't. I cannot give you a definitive answer on that, but every backlink "helps" somewhat -- at least I believe they help even if it's only 0.001%. However, some help more than others. It's up in the air if it really helps or not, but it shouldn't hurt.

The only directory that is going to do anyone good is one that indexes all the information the idea set out to. Unforutnately in order to do that you have to have a good way to index the data automatically as relying on submisions is rarely enough. But to answer your question, no not really. If its not coplete, its not serving its purpose.

There are a lot of small directories out there that aren't really going to get you anywhere. YOu can find a large number of directories but I peronsally stick with the large directories and search engines. I think more people will find your website through them.

If a directory has good PR then, this can be helpful to you for your own quest for better search engine ranking.

I submit to them if I think they are relevant to my site - I have, as a user, browsed subject specific directories from time to time.

I don't think the general ones will bring you much traffic directly, but they are still a backlink, and that probably helps, even if only a small amount.

If I see someone offering a chance to add a link for free on a forum, then I will do it, but I wouldn't go out and pay to get added to yet another small directory.

People actually read those? Only kidding.

I've actually had some click-throughs from small directories. If only one person who clicks through buys your service or clicks on your advertising then it's beneficial, in my opinion.

The CTR is negligible on almost all directories. If you are submitting to directories, you usually aren't looking for traffic as a result of clicks but rather more backlinks.

It can't hurt. Submit to any directory that you can, as long as it's not a link farm, etc.

The directories that I read are ones that are related to very very narrow subjects, and I've only used them in cases where good-old-google has failed me on a search term. If I can't find the info I need by searching for it, but I do find a directory with sites related to a subject, I start browsing the sites in those directories, and sometimes I had had joy that way.

As a visitor, they are a last resort for me though.
