Default 3D Rendering Programs

I used to use 3D rendering programs when I designed for fun; that's not to say that I don't anymore. I used 3D StudioMax, Cinema4D, and Bryce. I once used Lightwave, but it didn't turn out too well. Lightwave is for computer farms where each computer takes on a different part of the image to render. My computer couldn't handle it.

I don't use them much now that I create and sell web designs. Once in a while, I'll create an abstract render for a clan template, or a render of an object I can't find a good stock of.

Does anyone else use them for web designs?

I have messed around with Maya and 3DSMax. Both are great programs but they are extremely complicated.

I messed with 3D Studio Max once, but I found it so complicated that I never went back. I don't really have a use for such a program, so I decided not to spend the time to learn it. I know that it's a great program and Maya is too, but both just weren't for me at the time. I may get back into 3D rendering, but not at this time.

3D StudioMax is indeed complicated at first. Like most things, it takes some time to get used to. 3D rendering is a lot of fun when you have spare time. I love making 3D models of actual objects such as space stations, homes, and vehicles.

I have and still am using 3d studio max along with photoshop,
To create my website designs,

I usually make a base where all shapes go,
Then after doing so in photoshop,
I use the image as an reference, and set it up in 3d studio max.
Then i can create real depth, and 3d styles.

Its not really that hard,
But its rather getting started that is hard,
Just takes time and learning

It's frustrating when you're learning to use the program. It's also difficult to master all of the features the programs provide. It's worth it though; the depth and detail greatly improve the image.

I think of Maya and Max, Maya is slighty easier to figure out - I found a lot of very good tutorial websites for Maya when I was trying to learn it.

I'm hopeless at 3D art though - all art, really.

I don't think much of Bryce. Its easy to use but things look like they were made in it (in the way Frontpage web sites look alike.)

Theres always blender - at least thats free, so it doesn't put pressure on you to HAVE to learn because you paid so much money...

I've never felt that pressure. I take my time learning the program; pressure frustrates me and often causes me to quit.

I have used Maya a bit, they have a free educational version that watermarks the renderings. Appart from that I believe it is the same.

Also there are video tutorials at http://www.simplymaya.com/movie_page...html?cat_id=23 which are free. They have better tutorials too but they cost money like the Apache helicopter.

I used 3dsMax and I got as far as creating a Rubix Cube. I find 3d programs difficult but I haven't had any formal training on the programs neither.
