Default Browser Resolutions

Does anyone know where to check for what the current use of browser resolutions is on the Internet? I'm wondering if it's time to start designing strictly in 1024x768.

20% and that's at W3schools ... looks like 800x600 is still the way to design.

Yess, keep things designed for 800x600 if at all possible. Especially with Internet devices becoming smaller, you want a Website that can be viewed on as small a screen as possible. Plus, it does not hurt anyone with a higher resolution.

I bet it also really depends on what your audience is. I'm guessing most gamers, for instance, run screen resolutions of 1024x768 or beyond.

media="handheld"

My mum and sister still use 1024x768 (despite it being blurry at 800x600 on my sister's laptop).

You could also use a CSS style switcher so it would say "Site too narrow? Widen it up!" and then load a new stylesheet. Just make sure that all content isn't over the smallest width between your style sheets

I see a lot of computers everyday and I never see anyone using this resolution. It may be possible that some people are still using it, but I really doubt anyone that you really care about visiting your website. They have to be using such an old computer/monitor that it really wouldn't matter for you.

640x480 is pretty much over. I think it's at 800x600 and about to move up to 1024x768.
