If the website is big but has a useful purpose I don't mind at all as long as it's easy to navigate. There are a lot of websites that just have too much stuff on their websites that it looks cluttered and distracts to the point of being annoying. I don't spend my time at these ****s of sites. I like a clean look and enjoy sites that spend more time creating good content than adding too many ads or that blend the ads into the site so it looks good.

Most of the time, it depends on how easy it is to navigate around the web. But it can still gets too big some time. Online readers tend to have shorter time limit per page they get to. Sometimes it happens to me as well. I might only stay at the site for a short while unless the site really have something i'm looking for, otherwise, i'll just move on to the next site.

Well if you have well websites and also you have easy navigate system than big website might be good but you have to put good content and update your site daily. Blogs are best examples of this and blogs are going more popular at the moments.

Websites can get too big if not designed properly. Also people don't want to dig so imagine a 100 list menu and the chore to update. Sub domains may be the way to go.

Yes, i think that i website can be way to big ive seen sites on the past which fit all there information on to the main page, i think it's better to create new pages and put some of the information or news there.

Have you ever heard about the study on ice cream flavors?

Some ice cream parlors offer *100* flavors or some other big number while others only offer a standard 12 or so. Most people prefer the 12 because too many flavors can be overwhelming and they stall instead of making a decision.

I think it can be the same way with information. You go into a kind of overload (like cramming for a test in college...). But then again it depends on the website and what you're talking about. If you are doing pages and pages of relevant articles than can be searched for... that's one thing. But just pages of typed information and random tangents is unnecessary and often mental brutal.

Cool Re: Can a website be too big

Hi all,

Just want to put my two cents worth in. I have a site that has around 500 pages, they all relate to my main topic which is Crystal Healing, some relate to other alternative healing methods but all are in the same vein. I have set up a good navigation system and also have a sitemap where every page/article is catalogued so visitors can easily find what they want without any trouble.

I keep getting comments about how great the informations is and how much there is, I have never had anyone tell me that there is too much information on the contrary they usually ask for more.

So from my personal point of view if the information is related to the main topic and the site is easy to navigate for the visitor then the bigger the better.

So it all comes down to great organization of your content and pages. We can generally say that a site is too big when we have trouble finding what we want in it, having too much unnecessary information bunched in one page, and lose ourselves in long scrolling pages. In short, If we overwhelm the casual website visitor with how the website is organized.

How do we avoid this? Well, the best approach would still be designing the flow of the website based on your content, how our target market would want access on them and the best and shortst way they could get it.
Don't overwhelm the senses, they shut down if you do.
