Default Flash Skills..

Hi,

I've only just recently been getting into my flash alot more. I've decided that, it can be alot more benficial to me if i can produce sites with multiple aspects to it.

It can also help me broaden my freelancing as it gives a wider range of jobs that are available to my customers.. and in turn bringing in more revenue for myself..

Just wondering how long people have been using flash for and what version..

I've owned Flash MX 2004 for about a year, but I've never really used it. Only recently have I thought of and attempted using it. That's because, I've noticed during my time as a web designer, that templates produced with Flash sell for a much higher price. People love flashy, animated designs. Flash produces the more complicated animated designs, and it all runs smoothly. It can also be used to help the user customize the page to their preference by changing the song, color scheme, hide/view tables, etc.

I'm no good at flash. I tried it once, but gave up after a few hours. It just wasn't for me at the time. I might get back into at some point, but I honestly fee that flash is dying down as far as its use, so it may not be worth it.

Yeh, undertsand where your coming from, but just take a look at www.thefwa.com 90% of their awards are going to flash sites..

my old man just finished developing his business website and 75% is done with flash, plus i see alot more design going about with flash in them..

It is either another one of these trends that will die out or it has been the same or maybe is even growing with the release of flash 8

I used to be a huge flash fan. I loved flash interfaces, etc.

But after a while, and after getting used to the whole web 2.0 transition, and the whole "better user useability" I got attached to some really nicely coded sites. I find them a lot easier and more to the point. They are a lot more versatile and simple then a flash interface.

I see it like this. Flash sites are more of an art, an aspect of design.

Non flash sites are more information, professional, and straight to the point (though I will argue and agree with, that non flash sites tend to look a lot nicer then flash sites, in SOME cases...)

I've done a few flash bits and bobs, nothing heavy, just a few moving lines of text ect..

It was pretty fun but took an age to do..

I'd agree with Spencer, I feel its dieying down now and being replaced with other things..

That's true, but design is eye candy. Flash also performs tasks that do more than just attrack the eye.

All-in-all, it's an important element in design; with Flash, you can never go wrong.

hmm, interesting that so many of you have Flash but never learn't to use it considering the price tag.

I used to use Flash alot, I have books going back to version 3. Now they have AS2 etc and I havent really picked all the new features through lack of use.
