Google Page Creator is a free online tool that makes it easy for anyone to create and publish useful, attractive web pages in just minutes.
|
"New" innovation (or just copying Y!, whatever works) by Google.
What are your thoughts? | |

| Re: Google Page Creator Yeah, I just got my official invite to Google Page Creator last night, so I have a page up already.
Easy as pie for people who don't know a thing about HTML as long as they're happy with the defaults. I haven't had time to dig too much into the HTML to see what can and can't be changed behind the scenes.
Fairly large selection of templates to choose from considering it's all free (for now anyway). Of course, with millions of people using it we'll all get darn sick of seeing the same old templates everywhere, if you actually spend time on the sites. It will be interesting to see when/if the sites created turn up on Google searches. Or does anyone know if Google is going to keep this area from being crawled? |

| Re: Google Page Creator I dunno. Is it another GeoCities creation or is it better? What's the code under the hood like? |

| Re: Google Page Creator Seems like they're trying to steal some of the massive Geocities market. Can't say I'm very interested, it's hardly innovative. They're getting dangerously close to Google overkill.
From the screenshot it looks very basic, almost too basic - even for people who don't know the slightest bit of HTML. |

| Re: Google Page Creator Hmm, google will be expanding into chocolate bars next at this rate :/
I think it will attract some beginners. I have friends who think 'oh, its google it must be good' and people like that will use it. It doesn't look that amazing from that screenshot though. |

| Re: Google Page Creator I agree with you guys. When I saw it, my first reaction was what I term my "Google - bleh!" reaction - Google has their hands in everything these days, and it's starting to show, as the new services they are releasing are so (too) simple that even a three-year-old could use them. |

| Re: Google Page Creator I think it's really crap. I messed around with it a bit and heard the guys over at TWiT's thoughts on it, and I agree with them that it's really useless. I know it's free and you cannot expect everyone to go out and buy Dreamweaver, but if you're not going to take the time to learn HTML then you probably shouldn't be creating websites in the first place. I know that sounds evil, but let's be honest here. |

| Re: Google Page Creator I agree with Spencer, if you don't know HTML you dont deverse to have a website. Something are just better learned.
Honest, I think the tool is cool and neat, its just that it serves no purpose what so ever to anyone creating a website. The templates are decent. A bit better than geocities IMO. |

| Re: Google Page Creator Well that all depends, Does a mom and pop site really want to brand itself on a free editors website? If your going to start a business you might as well hire someone or do it yourself. Companies and/or people shouldnt rely on things making it easy for them. And honestly, I wouldnt buy from a company with a website on google pages.
I mean if it was easy and gave a little tutorial on how to make your own website then sure I would think it was usefull. |
