Default Have you ever done print work?

I'm just wondering how many of you have experience doing print work? I've never done any design that's been for print. Have you?

Small tip - if you havent done any print design before or it is a big order ask for a proof... it usually costs £10 - £20 but is better than spending loads of money on boxes full of faulty print.

Also if there is mistake in the final print run which didn't show up on the proof, they will reprint it for you.

I heard a funny story recently about someone that got thousands of small books printed in abroad (china I think), there was a mistake and the company agreed to reprint it. But asked him to keep the faulty ones as well because it would of cost them more for it to be returned, so the guy burried them in his garden.

That's a great story. It says a whole lot about China, cheap labor, and cheap materials all in two sentences. But seriously, getting a proof is very important as Avix mentions. If I was ever going to do print work, I would surely get a proof done first.

Im a certified Desktop Publish so i've had a bit of experience in print work. Binding etc. It's a job but if you can afford good equipment and paper its worth the time etc. and you can ensure it's done the way you want it. I can tell you that some print companies make double than what the actually spend on doing the print work. I could do 1000 business cards 4 colors mirrored for 7.00 easy.

I've done an A4 sized poster for a USB thumbdrive once. The posters were handed out at a convention. I'll take some pictures tomorrow to show off.

The only print work I have done is some business cards, flyers and greeting cards. I designed and printed the materials. However, since i am not a print shop it is not something I ever got into very much and I do not do print work at all anymore.

It is really fun to design business materials like that though. You get to use various skills and creativity.
