istockphoto.com is my favorite. You have to buy the photos (and any images/videos/whatever) but you pay for them in points which really come out to only a dollar or two per photo.

You should always first think whether you can make your own photos before buying them. Real photos are much more powerful than stock.

Hi, I've heard people say what you said about real photo's being better than stock and I wonder why? Maybe it's because they say they're better and don't give an explanation as to why. Before I knew anything about selling, I, as a consumer always felt more comfortable buying from someone who displayed stock photos vs. "real" or homemade photos. The seller with the stock photos seemed more "professional" to me. And for a consumer "professional" translates into trust.

Please elaborate on why real photos are "more powerful" than stock. Thanks

Hi cleo, sorry to jump in. Maybe CapitalGuy just meant that it would a photo you made by yourself is more powerful because you control what's in it. This is definitely a plus thing.

I have tried buying some photos in istockphoto before and to be honest, sometimes (not all the times ok) I can't find images that can hit the concept in my mind spot-on. Especially if you are making a really unique concept that needs an exceptional pose, or additional elements in the photo, it is best to shoot it yourself right?

But of course this applies only if we are confident in our photographing ability. Maybe we can also rely on someone knowledgeable too.

The bottom line is that stock photos and real photos have their own pros and cons. One can be the best choice depending on the situation.
