Default Becoming A Good Programmer/Coder

I've discussed what it takes to become good graphic/web designer. Now, what does it take to become a good programmer/coder?

My own motive, PPW, Practice, Persistence and Will (to learn the coding your seeking.) Like right now, I know just about enough PHP and MySQL, now I am on to the Windows side of things with trying to learn ASP.NET for my urban apparel store.

I agree. I also think patience plays a big part in becoming a good programmer. It takes time to learn and apply.

My point exactly, I always wanted to learn C++ or something but I can't get it all pat down though, so I'm doing ASP.NET before C++.

Practice, and learning that its not the syntax that is the biggest stumbling block, its the mindset. Once you learn how to break down problems into manageable chunks, and to write re-useable code in one language, you're 80% of the way to being able to code in any language. Learning the syntax is easy, but it won't help you unless you know what to do with it.

Honestly, I think determination is one of the things that makes a good programmer. You need to be determined to find the best solution for whatever you're up against as well as determinated to complete the project no matter what is up against you.

I agree with Spencer, determination is a key factor. Also as g1c9 said, logic is a factor.

If you want to learn your way up to C++ then your going the wrong way by going with ASP.NET. Well perhaps not totally the wrong way but it may be better to learn C then move onto C++.

I'm with iTechSmart. You'll be better off learning C and then C++, then ASP.NET.
