Well I just find it easier with FrontPage since it gives you the ability to preview the page as you do it. Not only that you have the code right there also, so you can have a split screen; one with html code and the other side with the visual representation of the code.

But I guess if you're very knowledgable in html you could do it with Notepad, but even the experts I know use dreamweaver or frontpage.

I have always been familier with and used Frontpage and html. Yeah frontpage is very easy to navigate and you don't need to know much about web designing.

I have heard lots of good things about Frontpage. I need to sit down and take a look at it.

Frontpage is no longer. The new version is Expression Web. Unfortunately Microsoft did away with Frontpage Server Extensions (FPSE). FPSE allowed uses to create a website - create forms very easily, etc. Expression Web uses more server side coding than HTML. Expression Web is easily used though but the components that so many users relied on are going away.

Expression Web has a 30-day trial as well.

Really, I didn't know that Microsoft was changing the software. I guess I need to stay up to date on my technical news.

They released the press release in February 2006 if I can remember correctly - but not too many people read them unfortunately.

If anyone would care to ask a really basic question - what exactly does Frontpage (and other programs like that) do?

I've always designed using notepad - just writing the HTML and CSS, etc. Am I missing something great?

Frontpage and other WYSIWYG (what you see if what you get) editors create the HTML for you. So you basically write / create tables etc like in Word and these programs will create the HTML for you. Unfortunately most of the got a bad rep because of all the extra bloated code but Expression Web produces clean code

Well, then I guess I won't be checking out Frontpage, now, will I? But thanks for telling us about Expression Web - I will check it out.

I find Macromedia Dreamweaver is the easiest. You can preview the pages, view the HTML, and everything else FrontPage can do. I usually just use notepad though.
