Default Requirements to be a programmer

I have finished some courses not related to programming but I want to learn how to program and to design a website. Do I need to study a course in it, or can I just learn it from the web tutorials? If it is alright to learn from self-study,do I need to take a test to be a qualified programmer? What qualifying tests can be taken?

Here is some resources:

http://www.w3schools.com
http://www.ed2go.com (pay to take courses to learn web designing but they seem thorough)

Just to get you started, best of luck and let us know how things go for you.

By no means do you need to be 'qualified' to do any sort of programming. I have mixed feelings about formal education and if had to do it all over again I would have saved my money and learned it all on my own. I prefer from to learn from the people who use it every day, the online community. There is never a shortage of people willing to help, and there are enourmous amounts of learning material to be found online. Books are alother good resource but stay up to date, always get the latest editions and make sure the author or publisher offer an online extention for the book in case there are any updates.

Hello,
I have many friends who are now very good website designer and they had not to do any course seperately. There are many free tutorials about website designing and they are very useful. You can try for it. W3school and webmonkey is best.

Depends on what sort of programming you're interested in. Most web design programming (javascript, flash, PHP, etc) can be learned by fiddling with it and searching on the internet for answers to any questions you come up with. A good book is usually a good resource as well, for basics and such.

Most PHP programmers that I have used are self taught and have been programming their own little projects for years.

I agree with the others here, if you want to learn then this - W3Schools Online Web Tutorials is definitely the best site to learn.
