I agree with the next one being PHP. Beyond that, keep an eye out for new fads and try to pick the ones that will last over those that will dry up.

Myself Nancy. I am a new member of this community.As i am always interested to business related discussion, but web related issue like web designing , seo , scripting language always attracts me.....

So i think...first of all a web designer should have good knowledge on basic and advanced html,xml and as well as css also.

Then java and php as well.....

The great thing about PHP (and Javascript too) is the plethora of sites that will allow you do download scripts to do a ton of typical website things like "email this page to a friend."

it strucked me that most of my clients wanted to find people who can create their websites using php. Thats all they know and heard about. We have to follow what the market wants. PHP will be next.

AJAX itself isn't a language, but it is something you would definitely WANT to know.

Well I think web designer should know follwing languages.

-PHP
- Javascript
- CSS
- HTML.

I've spent a little time learning javascript and a little trying to learn php. Any suggestions about where the best place to learn these are? I want to have a better understanding of them and right now, I just don't think I do.

Next should be PHP.

Then MySQL.

Then Ajax, which is asynchronous javascript and XML.
