Default What languages should a web designer know?

I want to become a web designer and I have been able to create websites for a few years now. I know HTML and am now learning CSS. I have Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

What other scripting/programming languages should I learn? I want to learn how to do shopping carts, counters, forums, and such. There are so many languages I don't even know where to start.. any ideas?

The next language should absolutely be PHP.

PHP, HTML and CSS is an absolute must. You'll definately have to use all of the above in most sites that your client require.

HTML and CSS is a must. But now PHP would be one of the best languages to know because of its demand.

Upgrade HTML to XHTML. There is not that much difference but the code will be cleaner.

A server side language (like ASP, .NET, PHP) is always good to know as well to do things via the server instead of relying on JavaScript

Yep I agree that PHP should be what to learn next. Other than that, javascript would also be quite a good language to learn because of the many functions.

Some scripting/programming languages should you should learn are PHP , HTML and Javascript, these are the most common ones, can't really think of any other ones that would be as useful .

In addition to PHP. most sites today are using mySQL for their databases so knowing how to interact with mySQL using PHP will prove helpful in the future. With PHP, HTML, CSS and mySQL, you can already create a powerful website for your clients and yourself.

I was gonna suggest mySQL as well, I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested yet. And of course, PHP
