Default Article Permission

I found a really good article on entrepreneur.com about why local businesses need a website, and my plan is ot send it out in my mailing to local businesses. I got a quote for permission to send out the article and they said it will cost me $1300 for 250 printings! I can't afford that at all and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.

Can you not write one on the subject yourself?

A bit more reading and I am sure you will be surprised, the article will then be yours to do with as you please and it will provide a page of content for your web site if you have one.

I could but I think it would be a lot more credible and I'd have more responses if it came from a popular and respected magazine such as Entrepreneur Magazine.

Take some notes and hit me on MSN, I'll send you to this guy named Reece... really cool guy and I'm sure he can throw something up for you. (I believe he does 500-2000 words for like $15-$50)

Yes, entrepreneur.com fee seems quite high (even though I'm no expert...)
If you're worried about credibility, if your own article is extremely well written, then credibility will be built off it. (I am optimist, but still )

Well you can always expect high rates. I withdraw my above comment, try and negotiate them and see if you can get somewhere with lowering the rates... tell them your purpose and that you are a sole-proprietor with a low budget. It may sound stupid and make your business seem stupid but its well worth it... they'll probably debate it and think it over.

Will the local businesses even know entrepreneur.com? I mean... they might be just as impressed with pixeltorch.com () or whatever. If they don't already have a website, chances are they won't know.

I vote for write your own article or get a freelancer to do it for a lot less.

I would echo Melos' point about whether many small local businesses will ever even have heard of entrepreneur.com. A well written article by yourself or a copywriter (plenty of cheap services around on the web) will almost certainly be just as useful. If you need help with content then it should be easy enough to find the information you need on the web and in your imagination

You never know, you could discover a new money-making skill for yourself!

There are many freelance writers who can write well and some of them can do the job at a meager fee. If you are saving, then go for this advice but if you can afford Entrepreneurial Magazine's fee, then be there.

I might be making myself look stupid, but if you can't find a writer online, see about getting a person to ghostwrite something up for you, then give you full rights. Ghostwriting is very popular and I like the idea (if I were to want a book published in my name) but I know I could officially never 100% claim the work as mines or even feel as if its mine because of the simple reason of, I DIDN'T write it.

I'd recommend highly to write your own article like everybody says, have it proof read and copywritten, then put it out. AND, it doesn't just have to be to your clients, in could be a strong based article you publish in magazine, brochures and other ways. Be creative and you could start making money from your articles as well (charge people to use your articles if anybody is interested in using one of yours) as sopaman said.
