Do any of you use a formal business plan to guide your online business?

For my first business yes I did. But I will admit I do not have an official one for my new business.

Yes I do use a business plan. It is necessary in a sense to help you stay on track with your goals and steps to achieve your goals.

I haven't written anything down yet but will need to soon, simply to keep track of the steps I have completed.

I don't have a written business plan, but I can see that I'm going to need one to stay on track. My understanding of a business plan is that it helps you act instead of react. While I'm glad I have so many freelance projects going right now, I've been neglecting other writing that is important to me like my second novel or an eBook I'm working on about common behavior problems in dementia patients and how to deal with them.

Of course, I'm so darn busy I may have to plan to make a plan. How sad is that?

I use only a very basic business plan, but I do have a written, detailed marketing plan.

I have just started building a business plan. I am using a few pointers that can be found on the SBA site.

It's a good place to start if you are in need of guidance.

That's a great point, SageMother. The SBA has a lot of resources for fledgeling businesses.

Thanks SageMother. I definitely needed one to stay on track. I'll modify according to my requirements.
