Default Doing business from a free site/blog

As most of the newbies who joins the net in the hope to make some money opens a blog/site with free service providers, will it be correct to sell any product or giving advertise to own products from a free blog/site?

I think a lot of it is down to the quality of the servers with free sites and optimising for the search engines.

Then if you wanted to add a shopping cart you would be pretty restricted to maybe an external Paypal or Google cart (where you'd also get a transaction fee), theres additional extras needed like PHP/MySQL to host a shopping cart system on your site itself which I don't think the free sites offer.

I think that a free site just looks very unprofessional. I wouldn't buy something from a free site with someone elses ads splashed all over the page.

You can get a hosting account for $2.95 per month these days, and a domain name for $7.95 per year. Most people can scrape together that kind of money.

I have been on the internet and up until now I have only used free sites. I have seen a lotof comments from other forum members that free sites do look unprofessional, but I have no real experience with purhcasing domain sites, names, etc...

Does anyone know where would be the best place for me to go to check out paid sites?

I do not believe in using free sites even if you are just starting a business. They do not usually offer all the features and applications that you need to have a professional website. They can be slow and do not always look the best since they generally have ads attached to the pages.

If you're so cheap to have to use a free website, you probably don't have the mind needed to run a successful startup.

You need to be open to spending... $10 a month is pocket scrap for businesses.

for those who are new to such kind of things and just want to have a taste of it before starting it big, free sites are the solutions. cant blame them for this. if they think its useful then they can go big time

I have used a free site to get rolling, see what works and what doesn't and have my site "live" before I put it on a paid host. The main thing is the domain name to me cuz many free hosts offer good service and their ads look like they are aprt of your site, like adsense.

Yes, I also found them unprofessional. If I want to create a blog (not free), How much fee is needed and what is the best blogger site?

I used a free site to get rolling - but then, I don't "sell" anything, I provide free content for ad revenue. This was a nice start but even a modest site can easily cover the costs of web hosting and it looks much better.
