If you have a member of your site that is causing problems but is also your best customer, do you keep them or get rid.

It could improve your sales in the long run but in the short run you will lose out.

What kind of site is it? Are they a customer who just happens to be using your forums and causing grief?

There is a hack for VB that can make it so that when someone posts, they can see their posts, but other members can't - if you've asked them to tone down their behaviour and they haven't listened, perhaps that could work for you?

Is it a forum, or a customer?
If its a forum, I'd likely just ban them.

If its a customer who is paying you for something, do your best to just make them happy and work out the issue.

Try confronting him about it, telling him you've received a few minor complaints from other members who are dissatisfied with his behavior. Suggest a few ways to solve the issue.

Any news on this? Did you decide what to do?

Just tell them straight about your views on him/her. They may be your best customer but that doesn't excuse them for whatever actions they are doing.

From the way you structured your question it sounds hypothetical, or are you in this situation yourself?
