Re: state registration I finally got a hold of some people with "power" (SBA) and here's the scoop. In Florida, you must register for a fictitious name if you are to do business under any name other than your own. Then you must obtain an occupational license from the county and if within specific city limits, then that one too (they can both be obtained simultaneously). Then depending on the business, you must get an EIN from the IRS. If you don't need it, it is still recommended since your social security number must be present on official paperwork, and lets face it, with all the stolen identities happening, it's just not wise.
