The government wants to know about every penny you make (or atleast every dollar). You don't have to start paying federal taxes on income until AFTER $600. But it's probably better to go ahead and start claiming the income either way. Keep in mind that is a "profit" figure. You will be able to deduct expenses that will bring your income figures down. I'd check with and account for the first couple of years - just to get the hang of it.

If a company pays you more than $600 in a year and doesn't take out taxes, they are supposed to report it to the IRS. I'm not sure if Google will send you a 1099 form, but mystery shopping companies will.

Yeah, I've heard the $600 number. I don't think it's annually, I think it's getting $600 from one place.

My best friends husband is a tax attorney. He says it's best to record every dollar. The IRS goes after those easiest to get....people like us.
