Default How much do you pay for SSL certificates?

  1. Do you pay for your own SSL certificates?
  2. If so, how much money are you paying?
  3. Do you use your hosts shared SSL certificate (is this bad?)?

I don't have any SSL certificates at the moment, because none of my websites require ordering of any sort. I would, though, if there was something that I needed to secure like an ordering page.

  1. Yes, I do own my own SSL certificates.
  2. I think I'm paying about $150 a year for the SSL certificate.
  3. I don't use my hosts SSL certificate, because I believe there are problems with doing so.

Who do you guys go through for the certificates, Verisign?

I have not seen them at $150 before, that's rather inexpensive.

Like Jeff said, you can get a TurboSSL cert for $25 a year if I recall. And don't forget to enter coupon code SAVETEN whenever you checkout at godaddy for ten percent off your order.

I've seen a lot of hosting solutions that give you one certificate for free. $150 sounds very, very expensive.

I don't have use for SSL at this time either, but I don't think I'd use my host's SSL (even if it was free). There's too much potential for conflict of interest, mixups and the like. I'd bet that the hosting company's "calls" for the SSL get first dibs, so it might slow down your SSL orders on your site, which may not be very conducive to customer satisfaction. Just my two cents worth, since I don't actually use this service at this time.

I would rather it slow down the order process than be hit with a lawsuit.
