Default OsCommerce

Does anyone use OsCommerce to sell online?

I tried it once, and my site got hacked after 1 week!
I hear its very insecure unless you know how to completely secure it yourself.

I have used OSCommerce. It's a fairly secure program. I wouldn't suggest it.

You should have a look at Zen-Cart. I believe it's based on OSCommerce, although I'm not 100% sure. It's a nice free eCommerce solution.

I've never tried OSCommerce, so I don't know what I can tell you. Is it not secure?

I've used OsCommerce before. It's a pretty good piece of software. I've never heard anything about it being insecure. When I used it last year, I never had any problem with security.

Im sure it isnt secure compared to other software.
Ive also read about being having their shop hacked.

I think if you take measures and add patches and mods, you can make it secure.

But why bother when Zen Cart has it out of the box?

No not really - the admin section is not password protected and it is so bloated I would guess theres holes in it all over the place.

On the flip side though the community support is very good - busy forums where you'll get answers to your questions in minutes on posting, plus hundreds of hacks and mods to make it securer.

Of the two zen-cart is miles better than osCommerce as it has taken osCommerce, opened it up and shook most of the rubbish out.

I couldn't believe that about the Admin section when I first got it.
So from the start you need to know how to code to make that admin part secure. I got lost right there and then.

Im tired of seeing OSCommerce sites, particularly for computer stores who fail to customize it so they all look the same.

I agree. They all look the same and it's rather pathetic. I think that people should start customizing their own or use some of the other software packages out there. OSCommerce just looks so bad.

Well 99% of webmasters would put a password on there, but some just leave it as is.
Obviously this leaves their shop and customer details wide open!
