Default SSL Encryption

Are your eCommerce sites protected by an SSL encryption?

For those of you who don't know, SSL is a technology derived in part from the military that encrypts data transfers across the Internet. It's pretty much a standard now; if you run an eCommerce site you absolutely need SSL! Personally, I don't do much shopping but when I when I do, if it's a small site, I usually at least look to see if they're protected.

Most eCommerce solutions come SSL ready, meaning it's fairly easy to set it up.

Yes, I make sure to SSL protect all of my Order and Control Panel pages. This is very important to do not only because important data is being passed back and forth, but also because your customers will gain confidence in your company. You can get really inexpensive SSL certificates from companies such as EV1 Servers.

Any order page should be made SSL encrypted. There are some pretty cheap solutions out there right now for SSL. I wouldn't suggest going with VeriSign, though, unless you have deep pockets.

I don't have any websites that have order pages or I would use SSL. You don't really need it for anything that doesn't have someone signing up for something. It's pretty cheap, though, so I'm not too worried about the cost when/if I do need it.

usually highly confidential information such as card details are only entered into the payment gateway, who have ssl certificates. Not really much point making the cart process secure appart from reasuring customers.

The only payment gateway I have integrated which requires you to have an ssl certificate is HSBC - they are security mad, most payment gateways you just send the order details to them. However HSBC require an encryped key to be bounced back and forth and validated before sending the order details.

I'm going to be buying a SSL certificate from GoDaddy.
