Default The Price Of Success

The Price Of Success

So many people go through the motions of trying to achieve success. But just going through the motions doesn't work. And while you may "fool some of the people, some of the time," you can't fool yourself. If you truly want to be successful and don't have the specialized knowledge required to achieve success by yourself, do the smart thing and pay a professional to help you.

It's unbelievable how many people will drop a couple hundred bucks for a night out on the town, but decide to close their wallets on those things that can most help them further their careers.

I think that's why so many people are enamored with search engines. Because of misinformation and rampant hype, they foolishly see search engines as some sort of magic bullet - a way to promote their business to millions of people, without having to spend any money.

If only it were that simple!

When it comes to marketing, "it takes money to make money!" I personally spend over a thousand dollars a year on business and marketing books, magazines, e-books, etc. I consider the money I spend a well-placed investment in myself.

Do I always get my money's worth from the books, tapes and CD's that I buy?

It depends on your point of view. Because of my extensive marketing background, I've aquired a lot of knowledge over the years. As a result, there are times when I only pick up one or two little nuggets of valuable information from the many books that I read.

However, those one or two little nuggets are usually solid gold, that invariably helps me earn thousands of dollars in additional income.

That's why I don't look at how much I have to spend, I look at the bigger picture. And quite frankly, if I have to spend $500 on a book, if I feel that book can help me significantly increase my income, I'll buy it. That's what most successful people do. They don't look at the price. They look at the bigger picture.

How about you? How much do you invest in yourself? If you don't know anything about Internet marketing, how much are you willing to spend to learn? If you don't know anything about copywriting, how much are you willing to spend to learn?

Granted, there are a ton of free resources and tutorials available to you on the Internet, as well as your local library. But quite frankly, freebies can only take you so far. If you want to be successful, you have to spend some money. There's just no getting around that fact.

Perhaps you don't have any desire to educate yourself about Internet marketing, but want to profit from it. No problem. Pay a professional to do the work for you. Perhaps you aren't interested in learning the finer points of copywriting. No sweat. Pay a professional copywriter to write your copy for you and reap the benefits.

That's the way of the world. It's always been that way. For example, when your car breaks down, you take it to a repair shop, because they have specialized knowledge that you don't have.

When your roof starts to leak, you call a roofing company, because they have specialized knowledge that you don't have.

When you need a haircut, you go to the barbershop or a hairstylist, because they have specialized knowledge that you don't have.

See my point?

If you don't have the specialized knowledge required to do something yourself, pay a professional to do it for you. After all, the only thing that really matters is the end result, right?

For me, there are some expenses that are worth it. Web hosting is one example - creating a classy website on your own domain costs, but the results are much better than a free site.

You make some good points but everybody can't afford to pay experts to help them with every aspect of their business. I agree you have to spend some money but I feel that I should only spend money from things that I need. For example, take Tyler Perry the guy that does play but now own his own movie studios. When Tyler Perry first started his career he couldn't afford to hire people to help him put on plays. So Tyler Perry learn how to do most of the jobs and he's a multimillionaire now.

I can see advantage to hiring a professional when you have to do so. But, I also know having worked for someone that had NO idea of the smaller details of his business that every good business owner needs to have a working knowledge of getting things done when they have to.

You make excellent points.

I think when first starting out it is wise to try as many things that are free, as possible. This way you get to float some approaches, see the results, and figure out what needs changing before you opening the wallet. It helps to prioritize your needs and then to purchase accordingly.

It does take money to make money - so SageMother is right. You need to get an idea of what you want to do and work at it on your own before you pay someone else to do things for you. If you start getting contractors for services too early, you might not be happy with what you get, because you didn't really know what you needed yet.

I think the price of success is guaged by many things. You can be successful in business and lose your family or health because of your work.
