No. PayPal cannot access your bank account. You always have to initiate the
add funds from bank account.

But if you ever want to do business with PayPal again, you're going to have to allow them

Good to know, though.

Yeah, they would not dare touch your account with your authorization.
It would be akin to stealing if they did that.

I still have not added my bank account to paypal for withdrawals as I dont feel they need to know all my business..

I would be interesting in hearing a concrete answer to this too. And yes if you just email PayPal a question it seems as if it either takes forever for them to reply or that they don't respond at all.

Concrete answer is as follows.

They cannot take the money from your bank account. What they will do is deduct it from your PayPal account. So take the sum of $1,500 your account would be in debt by $1,500 you can dispute this with them if it ever happens and resolve it. In most cases you would have to pay back this money to bring your account back to normal. However if you do nothing, after an x amount of time they will suspend and terminate your account.

If you did not pay it back in that x amount of time could PayPal take further action against you after terminating your account? Or would it end there?

It ends. It's happened to me. I sold a design, got the money. Then the client reversed the payment and I was landed in debt with PayPal. I didn't pay out of principal. It goes on for a few months were they tell you to pay and that they've contacted outside services, but they never did.

Remember you can only use one credit card per account, ever. So if your PayPal account is suspended/terminated then you won't be able to use it again on PayPal.

But if they terminate the account, wouldnt that mean that the credit card related to that account is now free to use again?

Or do they blacklist it?

Paypal has no authorization over your bank acc. Paypal however can take money that is in your paypal acc.
