Google Base now offering payments

I just finished reading this article over at ArsTechnica. Here's a snippet:

In a recent update on Google's payment plans, the search giant said that one of its aims with Google Accounts was to make it possible for its users to pay for items online. Google appears ready to take the that step, allowing users to buy and sell on Google Base by using their Google Accounts. A handful of sellers on Google Base will be able to accept payments for items listed on Google Base. According to the Google Base blog, the company plans to start small and gradually increase the number of users and listings available for purchase via a Google Account.

This is going to be great if it works out well. Look out eBay and PayPal! Google-is-uh-comin'!

Yep, this is Google's shot at challenging the eBay-PayPal success. I don't know if anyone else out there other than Google could even make this kind of a move. Still, it's going to take a long time to build up as many users as PayPal has (100 million or so). Personally, I won't leave PayPal until they do something to upset me, which hasn't happened yet. I'd be a little cautious about the safety of any new online payment system, even if it's a Google company, until it's got a good track record. Too many changes for security flaws to be overlooked.

Another great thing from Google. Just another reason to throw stocks into them. Wow I remember going to an Expo In (Forgot the Date) In San Fransisco and they were trying to market there stuff.

Something like this is needed, at the moment ebay and paypal have way to much power and can basically charge what they want.

I agree with this. I would like to see some competition for both ebay and paypal. Ebay doesn't even thrill me that much. I've known too many people to be scammed and have problems as an Ebay user.

Google is progressing day after day. They have in my opinion the most promising future.

Hm...really? This could be quite interesting. Another company, this has got to be something. Well, nothing bad happened to me so far concerning Paypal so I'll just have to wait and see.
