Default Books on eBay?

Is there any way to make money selling books on eBay? I'm an avid reader, and usually have at least ten to twenty books that I've finished reading and am ready to pass on. I used to list them on eBay, but so many booksellers start auctions at a penny, I found I really couldn't make any money and started to sell them a Half Price Books (brick and mortar) instead.

Was I doing something wrong, or are books just not that lucrative?

Well here is one thing that many of the buyers never heard of , which is reserved price (the sellers are loving this one right now ) Once you post up an item, you can set it at any price you want, even .01 cents but if it doesn't go above your minnimum price asked for it wont sell. This is a really cool feature that Ebay added to their service a couple of years back.

Thanks jaggiegill, I'll have to give this one a try. I *wondered* how people were getting by selling work for a penny!

I have sold books on Ebay and was very successful. I sold most of mine for $5 plus shipping. Most of them were hardcover. I also use reserved pricing too.

You can also sell used books on Amazon. A lot of people are selling e-books on eBay too and any money made from those is all profit since there is no shipping or "product" -- it's all sent over the Internet.

I know that rare books are a hugely sought after on Ebay. I have found a couple of them at our local secondhand bookstore and sold them on Ebay for a profit.

Unfortunately most of my books are paperbacks and not all that rare, the **** that are easily available for a buck or two at most used bookstores like Half Price Books. And people who shop at Half Price Books don't have to pay shipping! I think from now on I'll stick to listing hardbacks or books that are truly hard to come by.
