Default Does Ebay do enough to protect the consumer?

Obviously, if consumer is the one who has to worry durrig an Ebay transaction. What happens to a seller if the buyer never sends the money, other than they relist the item (that they still have). The buyer, on the other hand, has to send away his/ her money, hoping that the person receiving the money has the decency to not pull out of the transaction and keep the money. Ebay has a few things they can do. As well there is charge if one seeks to reaquire money. Is Ebay really doing enough to protect the consumer? Should they not do more, like get credit card numbers, in order to charge people who decide to take the money and run?

eBay doesnt protect consumers all that well.

The best seller scam is for the seller to collect the money, ship an empty box, and ditch. I heard of someone who bought a laptop, the seller sends a box of bricks, the buyer makes a dispute, and ebay/paypal close the case without looking at it due to the fact that the seller did ship something. Talk about protection.... that really sucks.

I have had a problem with ebay. More than once people have made listings off of my account and even bidded on items. I don't go through and read external emails from ebay so I am not sure how they were getting into my account. I took all "security" measures and yet it was still happening.

How is Ebay supposed to check to make sure some idiot is sending a laptop instead of a box of bricks?

Let the buyer beware. Don't buy a laptop from a guy with no feedback, or feeback only for buying things.

For those who think Ebay doe not do enough to protect the consumer, what would you propose they do extra?

Why should you only buy from Ebay stores? Are they somehow more secure than the auctions? I don't think it guarantees that the seller is more trustworthy or anything.

most of the problems occurs with electronic items. and most of the cases i have come across where the seller didnt send the item after receiving the money have not been solved. so ebay is no good if you are duped

I know there are alot of sellers on eBay that are scamming customers but I happen to be one of the good sellers. The buyers are as worse as the sellers. If you make all of your payments through paypal then you are protected from beind scammed.

If you really want to avoid scammers,i think the best way is to accept specific specific modes of payment like paypal which guarantee you that the client is serious and not a scammer. But sometimes you should be able to also accept money orders on condition that if the check is fake, then you dont have to ship the goods.Firts cash the check or money order and then detamine if to send the goods or not.The thing you should always avoid are those buyers who ask for samples first before they send payment. You will know that is a scam.
