I've seen different sites use Google Adsense in drastically different ways. Some choose to make the ads blend in well with their content so users don't feel like they're being assaulted with ads, and others make their ads extremely conspicuous (I've even seen them with a neon green background and red text). Which method has a higher CTR? Has anyone experimented with this?
Re: Ads that blend in or ads that demand attention?
Blended ads are for sure the best way to go... ads that stand out actually turn users off! I hate to say it... but tricking users into clicking on the ads while staying within TOS is part of the business...

Definetely blended ads. For example, merging google text links into your page's content will give a much higher chance of people clicking the links, as uber said, exploiting this aspect is what most people do now to get more revenue
Re: Ads that blend in or ads that demand attention?
I think blended adsense works better than the ads that are related to the page. This way people who see the ads would have choices that matches their needs and wants. At least with the variety of choices, they might find something that can be useful to them.

2 prong attack. Get a domain for friendly blend in method, and register another domain that redirects to your company, and market this with the immediate action ads.

Well, keep in mind the user's experience. If they are constantly fooled into clicking ads, then they will not use the site. However, ads that stand out are also a turn-off.

I agree, the difference is huge if you use ad blending. Just need to be careful of their TOS.
