Default How many ads in a rotation?

For those of you that sell banners / skyscrapers / whatever, how do you break down your rotations?

If you were selling an ad on a month by month basis instead of CPM, how many ads would you have in a rotation? Or do you just sell on a CPM basis if you have several ads on the go at once?

I would say 3-5 banners are the most i would put if there was a month to month contract with the advertiser.

Thanks I was thinking 4 myself funilly enough.

It seems a lot of advertisers are leery of being in any form of rotation, even that small a number though.

When we ran a free Web hosting site, we had rotations x5. One thing to keep in mind is that the higher the number of banners you are rotating, the less you can charge each advertiser for his or her advertising term.

A maximum of 5 banners per rotation is acceptable but you need to have enough traffic to support the large rotation.

NetBusinessTalk uses a rotation of 5 banners. I was thinking about going with only 3, but 5 seems to be the standard. I think it also depends on the amount of traffic your website has. If it has less, then you may only be able to put up 1 or 2 banners.

At least 1 banner less than the number of pages you have.

If you go over the amount of pages you have even if a visitor views all the pages there's a chance they will miss some ads. People paying for those spots wouldn't be happy.

Same here.

NBT should have ~13,500 banners in the rotation?

You could use the feature in some stats programs that tell you how many pages, on average, visitors view per visit.
